Skirt.

I purchased this fabric, Oh, probably about two years ago. I intended to do something with it, but didn't. So this year, for Saint Patrick's day (I figured there was a little bit of green on the fabric), I decided to sew some simple little skirts for the girls. The girls were excited; getting involved in the measuring and design of the skirts was a new/fun thing for them! Hazel asked for a pocket, Jade wanted it plain. The had fun twirling in the backyard and being girls...in their new skirts!

Butter...

A new thing that our family is beginning to do, is make our own butter. We buy our milk and eggs at a local farm and after a conversation with the farmer...I ordered some cream from him...and tried my hand at making butter! It came out wonderfully! I have since ordered more cream and have made 1lb of butter (which I measured into 1/2 cup molds and are in the freezer) and plan to make more, soon!! It really is so easy! 

We had our first taste of our butter at breakfast with toast from freshly made bread, and everyone was pleased!! So hooray for butter!!!

Leggings

I have been wanting to try to sew leggings for the girls, and finally did! I found this tutorial and gave it a shot. They are unbelievably easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  If my sewing machine wasn't acting up it wouldn't have taken more than twenty minutes or so!  Hazel has demanded more, so I should be very busy in the near future :)

Happy to be sewing again, let's just hope and pray my sewing machine begins to behave herself!!

Learning

I bought the cutest kid knitting needles for Hazel. Not sure if she has the coordination to fully knit quite yet but we are working on it together. I cast on for her, of course, but she seems to be catching on. With her personality, she wants to finish it right away so explaining to her that knitting takes time has been interesting.   We are working on a Barbie blanket!! A friend at work said that she would knit Barbie blankets for her girls, and I thought with it being Fall and all, they might appreciate some warmth. :) I figure a few minutes now and then won't burn her out, and I'm mostly holding the needles and having her loop them through. It is kind of stressful on my part, not gonna lie, but it is teaching me patience!!!

Leg Warmers

I came across a Do-It-Yourself knitting kit at TJ Maxx, which was only $3 and included three balls of yarn. So I bought it. The kit comes with instructions + supplies on how to knit your very own leg warmers. So yes, I shall attempt this project. I have been sick on and off lately and really need to start (or finish a few lingering projects).  Not sure if I will even wear these leg warmers but I'm sure in the dead of winter my legs will need some warmth!

I made a wreath.

Last year I made my first Christmas wreath. I used free Christmas tree clippings and I had fun. This year I paid $6.00 for a bundle and made our wreath.

Gosh Darn you Japanese Yarn.

So, I walked into my local yarn store, which is called The Knitting Basket. I was overwhelmed by the beautiful colors & textures of yarns. I gasped at the cashmere, the wool, and yes it was all very, very pricey. My dear friend Kacy had sent me an email telling me about this Japanese yarn, called Noro that I must have because it is lovely & it stripes. So once I found this yarn at the Knitting basket I was so excited. It was right in front of me, so gorgeous and colorful...I was ecstatic. Only it was $12.50 for a small skein; But it was silk, mohair, and wool, and so beautiful. So after the rationalization in my head (I'm worth it and all) I purchased it (thank you husband) and left the store happy, very very happy.

My friend Kacy also emailed me a pattern that would accentuate the colors, so I started the project, and found out that I need about 2 more skeins of yarn to get it to the length I want...goodness gracious. At least I will have a lovely scarf after I'm done!

I will just be broke.

Not the most plentiful harvest, but it sure did make a delicious salad. Annnndddd, aren't those carrots the cutest things you have ever seen!!! I die :)

The death of me

My newest knitting project may just be the death of me. I saw the picture and decided that I must have it. Since I feel comfortable with the knit stitch, and the pattern was FREE, and it said it was "easy" I decided to give it a shot. My sweet, lovely mother helped me purchase the yarn, which was quite costly since it is wool, and the knitting needles. She also showed me the purl stitch, which was a bit challenging for me (and still is). Why then would this lovely shawl be the death of me? Well you need to cast on 91xs, then it is knit, purl, knit, purl...91 times!!!!!!!! I live a very distraction filled life so I was sweating and shaking, and hoping that I would not be needed by my children because I would surely lose count. However I did finish my 1st row...I don't know if I will finish it by this winter, or winter 2012, but I must have it so I will persevere. Wish me luck :)

Cuteness

I found these old paper dolls at a antique store near our new home in Phoenixville Pa. I bought them for $3 each. I cannot wait to frame them and hang them in the girls new bedroom.

New Table...

We saw this table on a lawn near our house with a sign that read $20. We purchased it, and I replaced the padding and cover....thanks to my new staple gun...and my new skill of using a drill gun....
